"There are gaps in leadership within the Orthodox Church at large, particularly at the parish level. Orthodox churches in America were organized primarily within ethnic communities. Immigrants were strong believers and a priority for them was to ensure their children and grandchildren had a place to worship and a faith to believe. They did well and churches grew. We welcomed Christians from various walks of life and churches continued to grow. Parish Leadership did not mature and develop with this growth in Orthodoxy. The Orthodox Christian Leadership Initiative focuses on teaching, mentoring, and training people of all ages and backgrounds how to be Orthodox Christian leaders to ensure long-term viability for their parish.
